Caedmon's Hymn

Now we should hail

the heaven-kingdom’s Guardian,

the Maker’s might

and His mind’s thought,

the work of the Glory-father,

how He of every wonder,

eternal Lord,

marked the beginning.

He first shaped

for the children of men

heaven the good roof,

holy Creator;

then middle-earth

mankind’s Guardian,

eternal Lord,

afterwards made,

a land for men,

Lord Almighty.
