Christopher is Red and Murphy's son. He is a
professional musician and plays mandolin, guitar, bass, fiddle,
and banjo. On the Murphy Method videos, he teaches mandolin
and ukulele, and he also plays rhythm guitar for Murphy on several
of the banjo videos. Chris's teaches our
Bill Monroe Style Mandolin, which was recently released on DVD.
Chris's newest release is a solo mandolin CD titled
Monroe Approved. It features many of Chris's
wonderful original tunes, including the much requested "Boxcar Door." Joining Chris are
some of the top musicians in bluegrass today: Ronnie McCoury, Jason Carter, Mike Bub,
Alan O'Bryant, Charlie Cushman, and Casey and Red Henry.
Chris and Casey had their own band for three years,
Casey and
Chris and the Two-Stringers. They released their first CD in May 2006 called
Get Along Girl.

#3. Bill Monroe owned this mandolin from the time it was made,
in 1969, until he died. Murphy bought the mandolin at the Bill
Monroe estate auction in December, 2001, and presented it to
Red. At the same sale Murphy acquired one of Bill’s gray sport coats,
and she gave it to Chris, who is wearing it in the photo!
